Hydraulic Glyd Ring: High-Performance Sealing Solution
Overview
The hydraulic Glyd Ring is a high-performance sealing element widely used in hydraulic systems. It is composed of a wear ring made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or similar materials and an elastic O-ring. This combined seal has become an important component in modern hydraulic equipment due to its excellent sealing performance, low friction coefficient and long service life.

Structure and Working Principle
The Glyd Ring consists of two parts:
Wear Ring: Usually made of filled PTFE material, with extremely low friction coefficient and excellent wear resistance.
Elastic element: Generally an O-ring made of NBR or FKM material, providing continuous radial force.
When working, the elastic force of the O-ring presses the wear ring tightly against the inner wall of the cylinder to form an initial seal. As the system pressure increases, the hydraulic pressure acts on the O-ring, further enhancing the sealing contact force and achieving a pressure-related self-tightening sealing effect.
Performance characteristics
Low friction: PTFE material has an extremely low friction coefficient, reducing energy loss.
Zero leakage: Nearly zero leakage sealing can be achieved under both static and dynamic conditions.
High pressure resistance: Designed to withstand working pressures up to 40MPa.
Wide temperature range: -30°C to +200°C (depending on material combination)
Long life: Excellent wear resistance, service life can reach 3-5 times that of ordinary seals.
Anti-extrusion: Special design prevents sealing material from extruding under high pressure.
Application areas
Hydraulic Glyd Rings are widely used in:
Engineering machinery hydraulic cylinders
Injection molding machine hydraulic systems
Machine tool hydraulic devices
Aerospace hydraulic actuators
Marine hydraulic equipment
Heavy equipment hydraulic systems
Selection and installation precautions
Material selection: Select appropriate PTFE filling materials and elastomers according to the working medium, temperature and pressure
Groove design: The sealing groove size must be designed strictly in accordance with the standard
Surface finish: The surface roughness is recommended to be Ra 0.2-0.8μm
Installation tool: Use special installation tool to avoid seal damage
Lubrication: Appropriate lubrication during installation to reduce initial friction
Maintenance and troubleshooting
Regularly check the sealing area for leaks, abnormal wear or extrusion. Common causes of failure include:
Incorrect groove size
Insufficient surface finish
System contamination
Improper installation
Incompatible materials and media
Development trend
As hydraulic systems develop towards high pressure, high efficiency and environmental protection, Gly Ring technology is also constantly innovating: New composite materials improve performance
Intelligent seal integrated sensor technology
Application of environmentally friendly materials
Special design for extreme working conditions
Hydraulic Glyd Ring has become a benchmark product for modern hydraulic sealing technology with its excellent performance and reliability, providing key guarantees for the efficient and stable operation of various hydraulic equipment.
